Ta Ta For Now

Dear friends:

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for following me and supporting me with this blog.  I especially want to thank the American JD scambloggers who welcomed me into their blogging community even though I’m not American.

The time has come for me to say goodbye.  There’s a possibility that I might come back one day, but hopefully not soon.  I’ve decided to stop this blog for two reasons.  First, my lofty goal was to prevent the opening of new law schools in Canada.  As you know, I think more law schools will result in more jobless JDs with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in non dischargeable student debt.  I failed.  Since this blog started in December two new law schools got the go ahead from the authorities.  Given that i’m just a little nobody I’m not surprised that I failed in my goal.  Part of the reason why I wasn’t successful in stopping the profiteering of universities is because as humans we seem to be a lot better at fixing problems than we are at preventing them, which brings me to the second reason why I’m stopping the blog.  I can’t be the only person in Canada writing about this and speaking out against it.  It’s useless.  In ten or so years, when we’re in the same situation that the Americans are in now with tons of students graduating with massive debt and no job, people will be open to the ideas presented in this blog.  Until then there’s no use in engaging in what can only be called a sisyphean task.

To all the law grads out there that are jobless: do what you gotta do to survive but please don’t sell crack (I’ve had more than one hit from the google search term “sell crack to pay off JD”).  Also, feel free to email me at lsffp1@gmail.com if you need to talk about things.

To all the greedy bastards out there, especially university officials who just see money when they think about aspiring professionals: eat a rick.

Sincerely,

LSFFP

Of course, a song to say goodbye.  An oldie but goodie, one of my favs.

I hope you return. But nonetheless I’m with you sistah! Perhaps we can write a book together one day about the un- & under- employment of law graduates and about wasted talent & skills that the economy and society can benefit from if only thsoe making policies in govt. and academia would wake up & reassess their current articling and job-placement strategies and programs (if any)! Currently there is a great waste of resources by Career Placement Offices….everything is so narrowly-construed and narrowly-skewed….all the way from the firms that conduct on-campus interviews with a select few; to those who administer the CPOs; to on-campus & community legal clinics that claim to be advancing access to justice but don’t include in that – access to the justice system for heavily-in-debt law grads willing and able to put their skills into practice to serve disadvantaged communities. And as for the Law Societies, it is clear they are not doing enough in concrete terms to ensure every law grad has a chance to be admitted to respective Bars with programmes that take into account the uneven playing field – and how the system inadvertently discriminates against lower-income grads, female grads & viz. min. grads to name a few. Surely, all of us have proven ourselves already by going through rigorous degree programs and then by being accepted into various licensing processes. If the requirement for articling is mandatory in Canada, then the various Canadian Law Societies have a clear obligation to ensure everyone is able to secure an opportunity to article – (whether this is paid, underpaid, or non-paid (by mutual agreement), in my opinion). I could go on & on…..But I hope you keep this blog around….The story is not over! :) )

Thank you LSFFP. You’re brave for single-handedly taking on the Candian legal education system, and your blog brought me some perspective. You will be missed.

Amazing stuff, I loved the last line! I also don’t think you’re “just a little nobody”. It’s pretty sad to see that the REAL nobodys don’t realize they are nobody but an incredibly courageous and forward thinking person like you is doubting themselves. I think you have made a very significant impact even though we may not see all the benefits of it immediately. Thanks for everything and wish you the best of success in whatever you do!
